Our story

Kaiora is an indoor vertical growing facility in Tāmaki Makaurua, created in partnership with Vertical Patch Australia.

Since 2019, Te Kōpu, a Ngāti Te Ata supported initiative, has been steering their waka with purpose and vision, eager to amplify projects that support and elevate the mana of the Iwi, how they exercise kaitiakitanga whilst, identifying and creating economic development opportunities for their people. Meanwhile, Nakhle Group was looking to bring the Vertical Patch technology to Aotearoa, leveraging the developments made over the last few years in Australia, honing their capability in the cutting-edge realm of vertical farming science and technology.

In a serendipitous convergence of journeys, Te Kōpu and Nakhle Group have now united, embarking on a collaborative voyage to redefine sustainable food production in partnership with Vertical Patch. This alliance is a heartfelt commitment to cultivate solutions that safeguard Aotearoa's precious waterways and whenua. Together, they're sowing the seeds of change, aiming to sprout new pathways for vegetable cultivation that not only meet but exceed the domestic and international craving for fresh, accessible produce.

Kaiora is an opportunity to grow the prosperity of mana whenua by:

Increasing the productivity of the whenua

Creating opportunities for export of high value products

Creating employment opportunities

Reducing negative environmental impact

Increasing consistent supply of high-quality fresh produce

Growing the region’s economy

“Our closed system vertical growing methods ensure premium freshness, year-round availability, and consistent quality”
